In België is het een standaard gegeven om je baby na drie maanden naar de opvang te brengen. Kort afscheid nemen van jouw kleine pruts en wegwezen. Letterlijk afleveren aan de deur, zoals een pakketje. Aanvankelijk was het niet mijn bedoeling om hier iets over te schrijven, bang dat vele mijn visie overdreven zullen vinden. Maar waarom zelfs? Ik merkte al snel dat dit toch iets is dat bij veel mama's wringt, en omdat het bij ons toch echt wel geholpen heeft, besloot ik om ons verhaal te doen.

De geboorte van Noah heeft een grote impact gehad op ons beiden. Een zware bevalling, in alle betekenissen van het woord, met een even zwaar eerste jaar als gevolg. Een jaar waarin herstel centraal stond, zowel fysiek als mentaal.

When a child is born, we welcome a new soul into the world while the mother sheds the layers of her old self. Change is inevitable, but it often brings up fear. Staying true to yourself and loving yourself after becoming a mother is not easy, but it is essential. I was prepared for the lifestyle changes, but I wasn’t prepared for the changes that occurred deep within me as a person. What really works for me is to go outside. Reset. Sometimes multiple times a day. Carrying my biggest fan on my back (literally cheering and clapping for me 👏🏻). These are the moments I realise that having a baby won’t put an end to your career, your passion, your search for whatever it is you are looking for —it may even ignite it.
