Het is weer de tijd van het jaar.
Van griepjes, virussen en verkoudheden.
Waarin niemand echt de tijd lijkt te krijgen om op te knappen.
Is de één eindelijk koortsvrij, dan begint de ander te snotteren.
Hoesten. Warm hoofdje. Glazige ogen.
Net ziek genoeg om je zorgen te maken,
maar nog te fit om de hele dag in bed te liggen.
Ik houd ze liever thuis.
Zodat ze geen klasgenootjes besmetten.
Filmpje aan, een dekentje op de bank.
Maar na een uurtje slaat de verveling toe.
Ze willen naar school.
En daar sta je dan.
Tussen koorts meten en je moedergevoel.
Tussen: ze moeten echt uitzieken
en: ze lijken zich thuis alleen maar ellendig te voelen.
Want ziek is niet altijd zwart of wit.
Soms is het grijs.
En juist dat grijs maakt het zo lastig.
Wat doe je als je kind koorts heeft,
maar nog lacht, speelt en vooral heel graag naar school wil?
Een second opinion: het voelt als vreemdgaan (maar dat is het niet)
Het blijft een dilemma.
Ik weet niet altijd wat de beste oplossing is in zo’n geval.
Ik kijk per dag. Per kind. Per gevoel.
Soms voelt het alsof er een onzichtbare ziek-zijn-jury bestaat. Alsof elke keuze die je maakt, beoordeeld wordt.
Houd je ze thuis, dan zijn ze te vaak afwezig. Laat je ze ziek naar school gaan, dan voel je je onverantwoordelijk.
Terwijl je eigenlijk alleen maar het beste wilt voor je kind.
