Als moeder wil je zo graag een opgeruimd huis, maar tussen werk, kinderen en alles wat ‘moet’, lijkt het soms onmogelijk. Je ruimt op, maar het blijft niet zo. Dat kan anders! Met een paar simpele aanpassingen kun je veel meer rust creëren, zonder dat je er uren mee bezig bent.
Zelf ben ik moeder van twee dochters en ik weet als geen ander hoe snel een huis een rommel kan worden. Denk je net alles te hebben opgeruimd, kijk je om en ja hoor: weer een bende. Het voelt soms echt als dweilen met de kraan open. Zeker op dagen dat je veel thuis bent met de kinderen kun je het gevoel hebben dat je de hele dag achter ze aan loopt.
Wat me opvalt is dat het vaak de moeders zijn die zich hier druk om maken. Hoe vaak heb je het hier niet over met vriendinnen of andere moeders? Dat gevoel dat het nooit af is en dat je het zo graag anders zou willen.
In deze blog ga ik geen magische oplossing geven waardoor je huis voor altijd opgeruimd blijft. Er wordt nou eenmaal geleefd in een huis, dus het zal altijd weer rommelig worden. Wat ik je wél ga geven, zijn praktische tips waarmee je je huis steeds weer makkelijk op orde krijgt met kleine acties die haalbaar zijn in een druk gezinsleven.
Daarbij is het ook belangrijk om te beseffen dat we als moeders vaak veel taken naar ons toetrekken. Sta je er alleen voor, dan is dat logisch. Maar als je samen bent, is het belangrijk om hierover in gesprek te gaan. Wat heb jij nodig? Wat werkt voor jullie?
Mijn man weet inmiddels dat ik echt een opgeruimd huis nodig heb om niet overprikkeld te raken. Want als ik overprikkeld raak, krijg ik een kort lontje en ga ik snauwen tegen de kids en mijn man. Je kent het wel. Ook al heeft hij er zelf minder last van, ruimt hij nu wel veel meer op. Voornamelijk voor mij, maar dat is oké.
Wat ik vooral hoop, is dat je na het lezen van deze blog voelt dat een opgeruimd huis ook voor jou mogelijk is. Niet perfect, maar wel rustiger. En dat je geïnspireerd raakt om kleine stappen te zetten.
(Voor het gemak ga ik uit van een woning met een benedenverdieping, trap en bovenverdieping. Voor een appartement kun je dit lezen als woonkamer/keuken, hal en slaapkamers/badkamer.)
Tip 1: Het ochtend en avond resetrondje
Niets is zo vervelend als ’s ochtends beneden komen in een rommelig huis. Het kopje thee staat er nog, de eettafel ligt vol spullen, speelgoed ligt verspreidt op de grond en het aanrecht… daar wil je eigenlijk niet eens naar kijken. Het voelt meteen alsof je al met 1-0 achter staat.
Hetzelfde geldt wanneer je na een lange werkdag thuiskomt. Speelgoed van de ochtend ligt er nog, ontbijtborden staan op tafel en er ligt kleding op de grond door de ochtendspits. Je bent moe, de kinderen zijn thuis en je moet nog koken. De overprikkeling voel je door je hele lijf.
Hoe zou het voelen als je opstaat of thuiskomt in een huis dat netjes aan kant is? Dat zou toch heerlijk voelen en een rust geven in je hoofd.
Het ochtend en avond resetrondje helpt hier heel goed bij. Iedere ochtend, als iedereen klaar is, doe ik in ongeveer 10 minuten een rondje door het huis:
- Kleding in de kast of wasmand
- Bedden opmaken
- Gordijnen open
- Beneden alles aan kant (keuken, eettafel, speelgoed)
In de avond doe ik hetzelfde:
- Zwervende spullen in de verzamelmand (waarover later meer)
- Speelgoed en kleding opgeruimd
- Eettafel leeg
- Keuken opgeruimd en vaatwasser aan
Het hoeft niet perfect, als het maar rustig is.
Tip 2: De verzamelmand
De verzamelmand is bedoeld voor spullen die door het hele huis slingeren. In de woonkamer ligt speelgoed dat terug moet naar kinderkamer en er liggen losse spullen op de trap waar je steeds overheen stapt. Van alles wat “even” blijft liggen.
Wat mij enorm heeft geholpen is een mand in de hal of onderaan de trap zetten. Alles wat in de woonkamer/keuken ligt en daar niet hoort gaat in de mand. Wanneer de kinderen naar bed gaan neem je de mand mee en leg je alles terug op de juiste plek. Spullen die van boven weer naar beneden moeten gaan ook in de mand, Dit neem je mee naar beneden en leg je op de vaste plek terug.
Ik hebt gemerkt dat dit echt ontzettend goed werkt. Zo blijven spullen niet eindeloos liggen en door alles in één mand te doen hoef je niet met volle handen de trap op en af.
Moet je de mand natuurlijk niet laten staan en wel gelijk leeghalen. Dat brengt mij bij de volgende tip.
Tip 3: Don’t put it down, put it away.
Het klinkt simpel, en eigenlijk is dat het ook. Je hoofd gaat hier vaak met je aan de haal. Je denkt: dat doe ik zo wel of nu even geen tijd. Ga dit spelletje niet aan.
Zodra je iets neer wilt leggen op een plek waar het niet hoort, leg het dan direct op de juiste plek. Het kost je vaak maar een paar seconden extra.
- Zet het kopje niet in de gootsteen, maar gelijk in je vaatwasser.
- Leg je jas niet op de grond, maar hang het op de kapstok.
- Leg kleding niet op de stoel, maar hang het op in de kast of gooi het in de wasmand.
Train je brein hierin. Bij mij heeft het ook even geduurd, maar inmiddels hoor ik dat stemmetje in mijn hoofd wanneer ik het toch wil laten liggen.
Bonustip: Betrek je kind bij het opruimen
Betrek je kind al op jonge leeftijd bij het opruimen, maar verwacht geen perfecte score. Zie het als een leerproces.
Geef geen algemene opdrachten zoals: “Ga eens opruimen.” Maar wees concreet en duidelijk:
- Hang je jas aan de kapstok
- Zet je schoenen in de kast
- Jij ruimt de treinbaan op, dan doe ik de knutselspullen
Vindt je kind het lastig om te beginnen? Doe het samen en geef het goede voorbeeld. Waardeer de hulp, ook als het niet op jouw manier gaat.
Er zal weerstand komen en soms willen ze niet helpen. Dat is oké. Kinderen hebben van nature de behoefte om mee te doen en onderdeel te zijn van het gezin. Dus blijf het aanbieden, zonder er te veel druk op te leggen.

Bonusbonustip: Het hoeft niet perfect
Lieve mama, vergeet niet, het hoeft niet perfect. Er zullen dagen zijn dat het niet lukt om je huis opgeruimd te houden. Bij ziekte, gebroken nachten, een volle agenda of een drukke week glipt het opruimen er soms gewoon tussendoor. En dat is oké.
Weet, dat elke dag, weer een nieuwe dag is om het anders te doen. Laat de boel even de boel en pak het de volgende dag weer op. Wees lief voor jezelf.
