En juist dat pigment lijkt gelinkt aan meer dan alleen kleur. Zweedse onderzoekers ontdekten dat dezelfde genen die je iris vormen, ook betrokken zijn bij de ontwikkeling van de frontale kwab in je hersenen. Dat is het gebied dat een groot deel van je persoonlijkheid aanstuurt.
Bruine ogen: snel, direct en gevoelig
Mensen met donkere ogen (veel melanine) zouden gemiddeld een snellere reactietijd hebben. Dat maakt ze vaak goed in sporten waarbij snelheid belangrijk is. Qua karakter worden mensen met donkere ogen vaak omschreven als doelgericht en daadkrachtig. Ook wordt er gesuggereerd dat ze sneller informatie verwerken. Uit onderzoek blijkt ook dat mensen met donkere ogen gemiddeld een lagere pijngrens hebben dan mensen met lichte ogen. En ze zouden minder goed tegen alcohol kunnen… herkenbaar?
Blauwe en groene ogen: strategisch en gevoelig
Heb je lichte ogen? Dan maak je minder melanine aan. Onderzoek suggereert dat mensen met blauwe of groene ogen gemiddeld een hogere pijngrens hebben. Ook zouden ze vaker strategisch denken en beter plannen. Ze verwerken informatie misschien iets langzamer, maar doen dat grondig. Ze houden van overzicht en zijn minder impulsief.
Daarnaast kwam uit onderzoek naar irispatronen naar voren dat mensen bij wie de structuren dicht rond de pupil liggen, vaker warm, empathisch en goed van vertrouwen zijn. Ligt het patroon meer naar buiten? Dan is de kans groter dat iemand impulsiever of emotioneler reageert.
Maar laten we eerlijk zijn
