Jeuk, pijn, een drukkend gevoel of zelfs wat bloed na een toiletbezoek: aambeien kunnen behoorlijk schrikken zijn. “Toch lopen veel vrouwen er tijdens hun zwangerschap mee rond zonder er iets over te zeggen. Uit schaamte, omdat het ‘erbij hoort’, of omdat ze niet weten wat ze ermee moeten”, legt Diana uit. Tijd om dat taboe te doorbreken en helder uit te leggen wat er in je lichaam gebeurt. En vooral: waarom je hierin echt niet de enige bent.
Hoe, wat, waarom?
Dat aambeien juist tijdens de zwangerschap vaak opspelen, is geen toeval. Medisch expert Diana Zeneli legt uit dat een combinatie van hormonale veranderingen, verstopping en de groeiende baarmoeder extra druk zet op de bloedvaten rond de anus. “Vooral in het tweede en derde trimester zien we dit veel”, zegt ze. “Het is vervelend, maar ook heel normaal en dus niets om je voor te schamen.”
Maar juist omdat het wordt afgedaan als ‘iets normaals’, zoeken vrouwen geen hulp. “Medisch gezien klopt het dat het normaal is, maar het kan vrouwen het gevoel geven dat ze er maar mee moeten leren leven. En juist dat idee houdt hen tegen om hulp of verlichting te zoeken, zelfs wanneer de klachten een grote impact hebben op hun dagelijks leven.”
Dit kun je doen
Jeuk, pijn, zwelling, een drukkend gevoel of wat bloed na het toiletgebruik komen vaak voor en zijn meestal onschuldig. “De klachten tijdens de zwangerschap zijn hetzelfde als bij aambeien buiten de zwangerschap”, vertelt Diana. “Maar wordt de pijn heftig, blijft het bloeden aanhouden of zie je tekenen van een infectie zoals roodheid, warmte of koorts, dan is het belangrijk om wél even contact op te nemen met een professional.”
Volgens haar kunnen kleine aanpassingen in het dagelijks leven al veel verlichting geven. “Voldoende water drinken, vezelrijk eten en persen op het toilet vermijden helpt om de druk op de aderen te verminderen”, legt ze uit. Ook raadt ze aan niet te lang op het toilet te blijven zitten en regelmatig even te bewegen. “Lang zitten vergroot de druk rond de anus, terwijl korte wandelingen juist kunnen helpen.”
Zachte ondersteuning
Veel zwangere vrouwen twijfelen welke producten veilig zijn. “Tijdens de zwangerschap geldt: less is more”, zegt Diana. “Kies voor milde producten zonder parfum of agressieve ingrediënten en lees altijd goed de gebruiksaanwijzing.” Actiproct biedt twee ondersteunende opties:
De Actiproct Tube: een medisch hulpmiddel voor in- en uitwendig gebruik dat verlichting kan geven bij klachten zoals jeuk en pijn (medisch hulpmiddel, dus lees voor gebruik de gebruiksaanwijzing).
De Actiproct Spray: een cosmetische spray met een verkoelend effect die handig is voor snelle, touch-free verlichting onderweg. “De gel is fijn wanneer je wat langer comfort wilt, terwijl de spray ideaal is voor snelle verlichting buitenshuis”, aldus Diana.
Dus nee, aambeien zijn misschien niet het meest romantische zwangerschapskwaaltje, maar wel eentje die veel vrouwen herkennen. Door er gewoon over te praten en te weten wat kan helpen, wordt het al een stuk minder beladen. En soms begint meer comfort simpelweg met weten: dit overkomt niet alleen jou.
