kelly35: DEEL 1: “Hij speelde vaak alleen in een hoekje”
Max was als baby eigenlijk een baby zoals de meeste andere baby’s. Maar toen Max 2,5 jaar was, merkten we dat er wat dingen moeilijk gingen. Praten bijvoorbeeld, maar ook snel boos worden en dingen gooien. Dat kwam vooral doordat hij zich niet goed kon uiten.
Hij is toen begonnen op de peuterspeelzaal, maar dat ging niet goed. Hij speelde vaak alleen in een hoekje en maakte weinig contact met andere kindjes. We hebben dit besproken en kwamen samen tot de conclusie dat er iets anders gezocht moest worden.
Max kreeg ook logopedie en daar kwamen ze erachter dat taal echt een groot probleem was. Hij is toen negen maanden naar een TOS-school gegaan, speciaal ontwikkeld voor kinderen met een taalontwikkelingsstoornis. Om te kijken of ze hem konden helpen met zijn taal. Dat kwam een beetje van de grond, maar niet zoals gehoopt. En op zo’n jonge leeftijd is het ook gewoon lastig om precies te achterhalen wat er speelt.
Na negen maanden kregen we een evaluatie. Ze gaven aan dat het waarschijnlijk niet handig was om hem naar een reguliere school te sturen. We zijn toen gaan kijken naar een school voor moeilijk leerbare kinderen. We volgden alle adviezen op, want het belangrijkste voor ons was dat Max op zijn plek zou zitten.
Uiteindelijk kwamen we uit bij de Inspecteur de Vriesschool in Kijkduin. Je komt niet zomaar op zo’n school: Max werd getest, de rapporten van de TOS-school moesten worden doorgenomen en wij kregen als ouders een gesprek.
Voor ons voelde het meteen supergoed. Maar het bleef spannend: kon hij daar terecht? Zou hij daar de aandacht en rust krijgen die hij zo nodig had? Vrij snel werden we gebeld dat hij was aangenomen. We waren zó blij.
Kleine klasjes, maximaal 14 kinderen, met twee begeleiders. Het contact met de school was ook heel fijn. We werden altijd goed op de hoogte gehouden van wat er speelde en wat er gedaan werd. De logopedie ging ook gewoon door op school.
Normaal gesproken moet je zindelijk zijn als je naar school gaat, maar zover was Max nog lang niet. Hij was inmiddels vier. Op deze school was dat geen probleem: er waren meer kindjes die nog niet zindelijk waren. Er werd rustig geprobeerd om op het toilet iets te doen, maar bij Max heeft dat tijd gekost.
