Mijnmomlife: “Alleen, maar samen”

“Onze eerste nacht thuis. Alleen, maar samen. Ik vond het pittig. Niet omdat Avina moeilijk was, maar omdat ineens de eerste uren met Aaron weer naar boven kwamen.

Rond 15:40 uur de volgende dag kwamen wij thuis aan. Avina is op dat moment iets ouder dan 24 uur. Ons huis, waar we vanaf nu met z’n drieën wonen. Aaron, Avina en ik.

Ik was de eerste uren niet alleen. Een paar vriendinnen en de kraamhulp waren aanwezig. Ik vond het fijn om niet alleen te zijn, maar ik vond het ook niet erg dat zij allemaal weer weg gingen. Ik was op. Zoveel emoties en spanningen van de dag ervoor.

De bevalling verliep anders. Er moest een keuze gemaakt worden en al het geregel eromheen. Mentaal had ik het even zwaar. Een keuze die je eigenlijk met een vader zou willen maken. Niet achtergelaten worden met de opties. Niet alleen deze beslissing te moeten nemen. Waar doe ik goed aan? Wat kost mentaal minder? Wat is voor ons beiden het beste?

Toen de gynaecoloog binnenkwam, was ik alleen. De vriendin die veel bij mij was, was even naar huis voor haar dochter. De arts legde veel uit over de twee opties. Een half uur later kwamen ze met z’n drieën mijn kamer binnenlopen. Weer het een en ander aan het uitleggen. Zij hadden al een soort van keuze gemaakt en die behandeling moest met minimaal drie personen gebeuren. En daar zaten ze. Met z’n drieën. Eén aan mijn linkerkant, een ander aan mijn rechterkant en één recht tegenover mij. Ik schrok.

Een van hen keek mij aan en zei: “Het gaat niet, hè?”
Ik zei: “Nee, ik schrik hiervan”, en begon te huilen als een klein kind. Ik bleef maar huilen.

Nadat ik iets minder emotioneel was, heb ik een aantal vriendinnen gebeld. Ik heb veel nagedacht in het korte half uur dat ik ervoor kreeg. Een van de verloskundigen die binnen was zei: “Er is geen goed of fout, besluit waar jij je goed bij voelt.”

Uiteindelijk heb ik voor een keizersnede gekozen. Er viel een last van mijn schouders. Ik voelde direct opluchting, ondanks dat het een operatie is. De andere optie zou namelijk een marteling zijn voor mijn baby, en dan nog niet weten hoe het zou aflopen. Bij een keizersnede wist ik dat zij er zeker zou komen en waar ik zelf aan toe was. Ik had de duidelijkheid nodig en die heb ik zelf gepakt. Nu wist ik waar ik aan toe was.

Goed, iedereen was weg en ik ging Avina rond 20:00 uur voeden. Ze lag in mijn arm met de fles in haar mond. Heerlijk te drinken. Ik bleef haar verliefd aankijken. Ze was zo zoet. Goh, en wat lijkt ze veel op Aaron, denk ik nog. Bijna eng. “Copy-paste”, zeiden een aantal vriendinnen.

Terwijl ik dat denk en haar aankijk, stromen de tranen. Ik dacht aan Aaron. Ik heb hem nooit zo weinig CC-melk gegeven. Hij was de eerste dagen niet eens thuis. Ik hoefde hem toen niet te verschonen. Dat gebeurde door de verpleegkundigen in het ziekenhuis of door zijn vader de eerste paar dagen.

Ik heb bijna een uur gehuild met haar in mijn armen. Hoe dankbaar ik was dat ik destijds de zorg kon delen. Nu was het zo anders. Niet minder mooi, maar anders. Intenser. Je doet alles alleen. Je kunt niet even overleggen, bijvoorbeeld over het opbouwen van de voeding, over haar temperatuur, of iemand die zegt: “Blijf maar even liggen, ik doe het wel.” Gewoon de simpele dingen.

Je staat als moeder nooit volledig uit. Af en toe kun je uitschakelen als je dat wilt of kunt, maar ik kan het niet. Als ik even op ‘off’ zou gaan, dan stort alles in. Ik voel de urgentie om totaal ‘off’ te gaan ook niet, maar ik mis af en toe wel iemand aan wie ik iets kan vragen, of even te gaan douchen zonder na te denken. Natuurlijk heb ik vrienden die er zijn, maar dat is toch anders. En ja, ik heb hier zelf voor gekozen. Met alle liefde.

De eerste paar dagen sliep ik beneden. Dat was praktisch het handigst in mijn eentje met de voedingen in de nacht. Ook wordt met een keizersnede afgeraden om vaak de trap op en af te gaan. En aangezien baby’s de eerste weken elke drie uur gevoed moeten worden, was het een goede keuze.

Ik was best snel mobiel en mijn wond zag er goed uit. Tot op heden heb ik amper tot geen last gehad, dus nog een extra bevestiging dat de keizersnede een goede keuze is geweest voor ons.

Ik had vanaf dag twee boven kunnen slapen en spullen mee naar boven kunnen nemen. Alleen vond ik dit zo afgezonderd, eenzaam en ver van de bewoonde wereld. Dit heb ik een paar nachten vermeden.

Tegen het einde van mijn kraamweek heb ik mezelf ertoe gezet om spullen in de avond boven klaar te zetten, zodat ik de voedingen boven kon klaarmaken. Eenmaal boven dacht ik: jeetje, het is al een week geleden dat ik in mijn eigen bed heb geslapen. Maar het voelde heel kil en alleen boven.

Ik heb even gedacht: laat maar, ik ga toch weer beneden slapen. Het voelde zo ver van alles en iedereen. Beneden is alles veilig, licht en je ziet en hoort mensen via het raam.

Uiteindelijk ben ik toch die avond naar boven gelopen met Avina. Ik was erg blij dat het mij is gelukt om naar boven te gaan die avond. Daar heb ik ook even om gehuild, omdat ik me zo raar voelde. Ik heb een vriendin gebeld en zij heeft mij er even doorheen gepraat.

Ik keek naar Avina in de co-sleeper. Ik was zo blij dat ze daar lag. Avina lag heerlijk te slapen en ik was ook zeker blij om in mijn eigen bed te liggen in plaats van op de bank. Na twee dagen voelde het weer helemaal goed dat ik boven lag. Nu moet ik er niet meer aan denken om continu beneden te slapen met een baby.
